But Zion said, “The Lord has forsaken me,
the Lord has forgotten me.”
15 “Can a mother forget the baby at her breast
and have no compassion on the child she has borne?
Though she may forget,
I will not forget you!
16 See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands;
your walls are ever before me.
Isaiah 49:14-16
It's very easy to fall into depression when events, problems & trials go against us.
Then we may find ourselves saying, along with the people of Zion, that God has forsaken and forgotten us.
Ever been there? Felt forsaken by God? Left high and dry, betrayed and let down?
Well God hears the cry of your heart.
He knows how you feel...
.... He knows our thoughts afar off [Psalm 139:1-2 O Lord, you have examined my heart and know everything about me. You know when I sit or stand. When far away you know my every thought.]
Very interestingly, before the Cross of Calvary, before ever a nail was hammered through Jesus' hands, Isaiah writes prophetically - that God has engraved us on the palms of His hands.
But now, when Jesus looks at His nail scarred hands, He remembers us, remembers that He laid down His life for us and will never forget us or run out of compassion for us!
Isn't that a comfort, as we start another week, where there are threats of shortages of all kinds coming up - Jesus' promise is that He will always remember us and look after us, provide for us.
That should be enough to encourage us and drive out all fear.
The enemy of our soul would love to make us panic and have us cringing and cowering away in fear, but we have been destined for freedom in the unending love of our great Redeemer, Jesus Christ.
Go out boldly into the day firm in the knowledge that God is with You.
