John 4:28-30,39-42 AMPC
Then the woman left her water jar and went away to the town. And she began telling the people, [29] Come, see a Man Who has told me everything that I ever did! Can this be [is not this] the Christ? [Must not this be the Messiah, the Anointed One?] [30] So the people left the town and set out to go to Him. [39] Now numerous Samaritans from that town believed in and trusted in Him because of what the woman said when she declared and testified, He told me everything that I ever did. [40] So when the Samaritans arrived, they asked Him to remain with them, and He did stay there two days. [41] Then many more believed in and adhered to and relied on Him because of His personal message [what He Himself said]. [42] And they told the woman, Now we no longer believe (trust, have faith) just because of what you said; for we have heard Him ourselves [personally], and we know that He truly is the Savior of the world, the Christ.
We aren't told her name, but she wasn't a person that people wanted to mix with. She'd had many failed relationships and was shunned because of it.
She had searched for meaning, identity and belonging in romantic liaisons, but was left empty, disappointed, isolated and despised because of her past.
She came to draw water alone, at the hottest point of the day. Normally it was a social activity, a chance to mix with the community.
Jesus doesn't give her a Bible study, but asks her for a drink, something that a Jewish man would never do with a Samaritan, and a woman at that.
He talks about life's meaning and tells her about her past.
She's so staggered by His insight and personal knowledge that she runs to tell the villagers to come and see Him.
Amazingly, they listen to this outcast and come to see Jesus for themselves
Think you can't be a witness for Jesus? This lady proves that we all can share our encounter with Him
"Come and see for yourself" is what she said. We can all do that, can't we?
