Whose power?

Psalm 44

Only by your power can we push back our enemies; only in your name can we trample our foes.

In the face of the huge tide of opposition against the God of the Bible and His ways sweeping the globe, it can seem overwhelming to stand up spiritually.

Evil has been unleashed on an unprecedented scale and appears to be winning.

Picture a massive dam wall cracking, bulging and breaking under pressure of the reservoir of wickedness in high places.

Yesterday a famous celebrity, writing in a national newspaper, pronounced that Easter should be moved to May and I quote: "no one would care except Jesus and he's dead!"

I cringed when I read that.

To quote Mark Twain: "The reports of His death are greatly exaggerated"! This celebrity is only half right:

Revelation 1:18

I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades.

- Jesus is very much alive and is keenly aware of the state of the nations. His eyes are all-seeing and His ears are all-hearing.

How does Jesus feel when he encounters such disinterested distain? Does he grieve? Is he angry?

This atheistic attitude is like a dark cloud engulfing our land - and it should be a heavy burden in believers' hearts.

What should be our response? It should be one of love and ....

Prayer, prayer and more prayer, but not only that...

It's time to stand, time to be bold, time to be unafraid to speak up for our faith and be unashamed .. If they laugh, if they scoff - let them! Some will listen and discover the Hope of nations.

Isaiah 51:1-13-16

Look to the Rock from which you were hewn

“I, even I, am he who comforts you.

Who are you that you fear mere mortals,

human beings who are but grass,

13 that you forget the Lord your Maker,

who stretches out the heavens

and who lays the foundations of the earth,

that you live in constant terror every day

because of the wrath of the oppressor,

who is bent on destruction?

For where is the wrath of the oppressor?

14 The cowering prisoners will soon be set free;

they will not die in their dungeon,

nor will they lack bread.

15 For I am the Lord your God,

who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar—

the Lord Almighty is his name.

16 I have put my words in your mouth

and covered you with the shadow of my hand—

I who set the heavens in place,

who laid the foundations of the earth,

and who say to Zion, ‘You are my people.’”

The Lord is urging us to look to Him and remember that the authorities, who look so intimidating, are just mere mortals - like grass to God.

As believers, we have been hewn from the Rock of Ages and are much tougher than we realise, not because of our own strength, but because of HIM!

Prayer

Father God we look to You to turn this nation around, back to You. You've done it before, please send your Holy Spirit to turn our hearts back to you. Have mercy Lord, in Jesus' Precious name.
