1 Corinthians 13:12 AMPC

For now we are looking in a mirror that gives only a dim (blurred) reflection [of reality as in a riddle or enigma], but then [when perfection comes] we shall see in reality and face to face! Now I know in part (imperfectly), but then I shall know and understand fully and clearly, even in the same manner as I have been fully and clearly known and understood [by God].

Yesterday I did one of those online quizzes that purports to reveal your personality.

There are various multiple choice questions and, at the end, it provides an in depth insight into who you are.

My nearest and dearest would say: "Psychology for the masses," in a distaining voice.

Anyway, it was an interesting exercise.

However, the fact is, that we don't really know ourselves. Perhaps others observe things about us that we glaze over.

One thing I'm convinced of is that Jesus knows and understands me.

As Psalm 139 says in detail He knows everything about me. He formed my personality. Each one of us is unique - there's no cloning.

As we follow Jesus and let the Holy Spirit work on our hearts

we are formed into our real self - the perfect design that God had in mind from the foundation of the world.

He picks me out as a rough diamond and chips away at me. I am a constant "work in progress" - not the finished article. As the saying goes: "Be patient with me, God hasn't finished with me yet."

How wonderful that Jesus' transforming grace can make something beautiful of our lives!

Like the old chorus says:

Something beautiful, something good

All my confusion He understood

All I had to offer Him was brokenness and strife,

but Jesus made something beautiful of my life
