Isaiah 8:12-15
Don’t let people call you a traitor for staying true to God. Don’t you panic as so many of your neighbours are doing when they think of Syria and Israel attacking you. Don’t fear anything except the Lord of the armies of heaven! If you fear him, you need fear nothing else. He will be your safety; but Israel and Judah have refused his care and thereby stumbled against the Rock of their salvation and lie fallen and crushed beneath it: God’s presence among them has endangered them!
Daily we are presented with new things to fear:
Power cuts,
Strep A,
Shortage of food,
Price hikes
Heating bills
Strikes
Nuclear war
The list is endless - enough to make quivering wrecks of all of us!
The Bible is clear - fearing God (a healthy "fear", aligned with respect for His Sovereign Power), means that there is nothing else to fear.
Can this really be true?
Is it possible to live "fear free" today?
Knowing the God, who willingly laid down His Life for us on the Cross, is the Key to living without earthly fear.
Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell. Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows
Matthew 10:28-31
The danger is that we don't "fear" (respect) God enough to stand up for Him and His Truth - in the face of popular opinion.
The challenge is to go out into this day unafraid because Jesus is holding our hand.
