Psalm 130:5
I am counting on the LORD; yes, I am counting on him. I have put my hope in his word.
We all need some hope in our lives.
At the moment people are hoping for an end to coronavirus restrictions, for life to go back to normal, for protection via a vaccine, an affordable holiday in the sun, or for enough money to pay the bills and feed the family!
Sadly, the result of hopelessness is plain for all to see - with suicide rates rising, especially in young males, who are devoid of any hope of a prosperous future and a good job.
In this lovely Psalm 130, the writer is planting His hope deep in the Word of God. He is looking to the Lord, the source of real Hope.
Psalm 130:6
I long for the Lord more than sentries long for the dawn, yes, more than sentries long for the dawn.
Now, more than ever, is the time to fix our hope on Jesus in the midst of the shifting sands of this ailing world. He is the one sure immutable Truth, that will never fail us.
Psalm 130:7
O Israel (and us, as believers), hope in the LORD; for with the LORD there is unfailing love. His redemption overflows. 8 He himself will redeem Israel (and us) from every kind of sin.
What solid value is there to hold onto when the foundations of society are being challenged and demolished?
Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Hebrews 12:2
This life may hold little hope for you, but there is an eternal hope waiting for all who trust in Jesus.
