What to think

Philippians 4:8 NKJV

Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy - meditate on these things.

When I was a very young Believer in Jesus I used to have this verse as a poster on the wall next to my bed, so it was the first thing I saw on waking in the morning.

I wanted to get my thoughts lined up with good things, uncluttered with worry, doubts and fears.

Just now the Hy Spirit reminded me of how to fix up my mind from anxious thoughts. How precious and kind of Him.

In the Bible we read of Martha, the "busy bee" of the family, scurrying around, doing all the chores, taking care of guests, including Jesus!

She's so frustrated to see Mary, sitting at Jesus' feet, not helping her. She is overwhelmed with her household tasks.

Luke 10:38-42 NKJV

Now it happened as they went that He entered a certain village; and a certain woman named Martha welcomed Him into her house. [39] And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus' feet and heard His word. [40] But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, "Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me." [41] And Jesus answered and said to her, "Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. [42] But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her."

I see myself as Martha sometimes, but I would much rather sit with Mary "hearing", absorbing Jesus' Word in my heart.

Being in His Presence would ease my troubled mind, choosing the better part of life.

Father God, help me to slow down and sit at Jesus' feet, hearing His Word, especially when there seems to be too much on my plate and I'm overwhelmed with everyday tasks.
