Psalm 20:7 AMPC
Some trust in and boast of chariots and some of horses, but we will trust in and boast of the name of the Lord our God.
Look at the news, you will see the Russians massing troops on the Ukraine border - trusting in the strength of their army and weaponry. Then Ukraine trying to build up their arsenal as a defence against invasion. They too are putting their trust in "chariots and horses"!
This verse stuck out like a sore thumb this morning.
Looking at this country, it has hurt enormously, during the pandemic, to watch the NHS being praised as if it was the saviour of our nation.
It was treated like some sort of a deity - with people praising and clapping in the streets every Thursday at 8pm.
Now this "magnificent" deity is going to take years to clear 10 million backlog of people waiting for treatment. What a let down!
We had the opportunity to turn to God as a nation, ask for His help, as we did in WW2, but we looked to man made solutions instead. God was confined to the backburner.
How sad!
It begs the question: "Where is my trust? What do I boast in? What is my chariot or horse?"
Is it in my job, my talents, my pension fund or savings?
Some trust in their looks and their intellect, but each of these can be stripped away in a moment, by age or disease, economic collapse etc.
The only trust that cannot fail is trust in the Lord. He cannot disappoint or forsake me. It is safe to boast in Him.
Prayer:
Psalm 34:1-3 AMPC
I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth. [2] My life makes its boast in the Lord; let the humble and afflicted hear and be glad. [3] O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt His name together.
