Psalm 34:1-2 AMPC
I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth. My life makes its boast in the Lord; let the humble and afflicted hear and be glad.
There is an inner conversation constantly going on inside ourselves.
What that conversation is makes all the difference to our physical, spiritual and emotional well-being.
So I'm asking: "What am I telling myself this morning?"
David, in this Psalm starts by determining the topic of conversation: "I will bless the Lord at all times".
Mmmm... just have a think about that!
It can't be that I can bless the Lord and be bitter or complaining, can it? So blessing the Lord will end up kicking fear, doubt, unforgiveness out of your mind and mouth!
David resolves: "His praise shall CONTINUALLY be in my mouth"!
Woh.. this surely is venturing into the realms of the impossible, isn't it?
Psalm 34:2-3 AMPC
My life makes its boast in the Lord; let the humble and afflicted hear and be glad. O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt His name together.
Obviously there are times when I am tempted to rehearse negative stuff - like when circumstances turn against me and I feel overwhelmed.
It's then when I most need my spiritual megaphone - time to start boasting!
Boast about how great God is, not just generally, but it says: MY life makes its boast in the Lord.
We often equate boasting with pride and arrogance, but when I boast about Jesus it can't be overstated!
He's the King of kings and Lord of lords - nothing and no one transcends Him.
If you're feeling humble and afflicted this morning hearing that inner conversation - boasting in the wonder of God's love and provision will make you glad.
Psalm 34:3-7
Glorify the Lord with me; let us exalt his name together.
I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears. Those who look to him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame. This poor man called, and the Lord heard him; he saved him out of all his troubles. The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them.
