Proverbs 3:5-10 NKJV
Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; [6] In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths. [7] Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the LORD and depart from evil. [8] It will be health to your flesh, And strength to your bones. [9] Honour the LORD with your possessions, And with the firstfruits of all your increase; [10] So your barns will be filled with plenty, And your vats will overflow with new wine.
Don't I love to lean on my understanding of things! I want to know "why, what and when" before I make my decisions!
It runs contrary to the way the Lord prescribes for a blessed life.
There has to be a letting go of the way I see things and a trusting in the way God sees the matter.
That's hard, it's the reverse of my old nature.
I remember when my firm first brought in computers. It was a complete change in working.
Previously I'd trusted in my pen, paper and calculator - then I had to re-learn my job trusting in a computer to do the calculations.
At first I had little faith in the ability of the PC to produce the correct results, but, by and by, little by little, I learned to trust in a new, quicker and better way of working.
I didn't chuck my experience away, but used it in a different context.
That's similar to how we build our trust in the Lord.
With faltering steps, we learn to let go and let the Lord do what He promises - leading, directing and guiding our paths.
I'm not there yet and probably won't be until I meet Jesus face to face, but my goal is to trust Him with ALL my heart and discard the "leaning post" of my own understanding.
How about you?
Leading a life ignoring God's Word is like trying to put together a flat pack piece of furniture without reading the instructions.
We all know how that turns out, don't we!
