Watchmen [and women!]

Isaiah 62:1 AMPC

For Zion's sake will I [Isaiah] not hold my peace, and for Jerusalem's sake I will not rest until her imputed righteousness and vindication go forth as brightness, and her salvation radiates as does a burning torch.

Isaiah 62:6-7 AMPC

I have set watchmen upon your walls, O Jerusalem, who will never hold their peace day or night; you who [are His servants and by your prayers] put the Lord in remembrance [of His promises], keep not silence, And give Him no rest until He establishes Jerusalem and makes her a praise in the earth.

The Lord's has promised great things for the future of Jerusalem, but looking at the news, it is a focal point for conflict and war. This too is prophecied:

Zechariah 12:1-5

A prophecy: The word of the Lord concerning Israel.

The Lord, who stretches out the heavens, who lays the foundation of the earth, and who forms the human spirit within a person, declares: “I am going to make Jerusalem a cup that sends all the surrounding peoples reeling. Judah will be besieged as well as Jerusalem. On that day, when all the nations of the earth are gathered against her, I will make Jerusalem an immovable rock for all the nations. All who try to move it will injure themselves. On that day I will strike every horse with panic and its rider with madness,” declares the Lord. “I will keep a watchful eye over Judah, but I will blind all the horses of the nations. Then the clans of Judah will say in their hearts, ‘The people of Jerusalem are strong, because the Lord Almighty is their God.’

We, who hold God's Word as true above all, must pray, pray, pray as "Watchmen".

Quoting: "The concept of “watchman” is found in the Old Testament in the context of “watching out” for the nation of Israel. In a military sense, watchmen were often stationed on the city walls and towers to observe those approaching before they got close. The role of a watchman also described the work of a prophet among God’s people."

As Daniel knew that, after 70 years, the Lord would bring back the exiles to Israel, so we, as we read the scriptures, put the Lord in remembrance of His Word. Be a "nuisance" in prayer. Keep on reminding Him of His Promises.

Luke 18:1-8 tells that such persistence is needed. Then warns: "When the Son of Man returns, will He find faith on the earth?"

You may see the news and say to yourself: "What good are my little prayers? Can me praying about such a complicated conflict make any difference?"

That's why Jesus chose THE most powerless individual in the society of His day - a widow, someone who had no support or authority, against an unfair judge, someone corrupt in a position of power, to illustrate just how powerful persistence in prayer is!

Keep praying, keep it up because Help IS on the way!
