Yet how quickly they [the Israelites] forgot what He had done! They wouldn’t wait for His counsel!
Psalm 106:13
That evening Jesus’ disciples went down to the shore to wait for Him. 17 But as darkness fell and Jesus still hadn’t come back, they got into the boat and headed across the lake toward Capernaum. 18 Soon a gale swept down upon them, and the sea grew very rough.
John 6:16-18
One of my nearest & dearest's favourite sayings, when we're carrying out some task together, and I'm forging ahead like a bull at a gate, is: "Wait! Wait"!
I'm not one who's good at waiting though. I just want to get things done fast.
Basically, the original sin of the human heart is, like the famous Frank Sinatra song says: "I did it my way".
If God isn't acting fast enough for me, I'll get into my "boat" and forge out across my own "lake" because I'm fed up of waiting for the Lord to act.
How quick I am to forget the storms I row into when I act without the Lord's counsel.
Thankfully, our loving Lord does come to rescue us from our bad decisions. He is very long-suffering.
Psalm 103:13-14 AMPC
As a father loves and pities his children, so the Lord loves and pities those who fear Him [with reverence, worship, and awe]. [14] For He knows our frame, He [earnestly] remembers and imprints [on His heart] that we are dust.
There is a happy and quick outcome in the storms we have rowed into, when we let Jesus into our "boat":
They had rowed three or four miles when suddenly they saw Jesus walking on the water toward the boat. They were terrified, but He called out to them, “Don’t be afraid. I am here!” Then they were eager to let Him in the boat, and immediately they arrived at their destination!
John 6:19-21
Far better wait on the shore for Jesus' timing than to row into a storm!
