Daniel 6
Now when Daniel learned that the decree had been published, he went home to his upstairs room where the windows opened toward Jerusalem. Three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God, just as he had done before. ¹¹ Then these men went as a group and found Daniel praying and asking God for help. ¹² So they went to the king and spoke to him about his royal decree: “Did you not publish a decree that during the next thirty days anyone who prays to any god or human being except to you, Your Majesty, would be thrown into the lions’ den?”The king answered, “The decree stands—in accordance with the law of the Medes and Persians, which cannot be repealed.”¹³ Then they said to the king, “Daniel, who is one of the exiles from Judah, pays no attention to you, Your Majesty, or to the decree you put in writing. He still prays three times a day.”
Recently a couple of people have been arrested for silent prayer near abortion clinics.
A public order law had been introduced to stop protests outside these clinics.
No protest was being made, but only silent prayer outside a closed clinic.
It was really concerning to hear the questioning that they had to endure from the police:
"What are you doing here? Are you praying?"
Then one lady was arrested by 3 policemen.
In the event, the police have since dropped the charges on the proviso that the charges can be resurrected if they do it again!
Christian Concern, an organisation standing up for Christian freedoms in the UK, are pursuing the case in order to exonerate one particular lady completely.
Daniel came under an unjust edict from fellow leaders who were driven by political ambition and jealousy, but he continued to pray and worship God as he always had done.
Today, we live in an increasingly hostile society which particularly wants to silence Christianity.
Our hearts must be set, like Daniel's, to be unshakable in our commitment to Jesus.
We too must keep praying, keep living lives that proclaim Jesus as THE WAY, THE TRUTH AND THE LIFE.
