Trust

Phil 4 6-7

Be anxious for nothing .....

This verse has kept coming to me today. I have to believe it's what  I need to hear from the Holy Spirit  in order to combat the fear that's  patrolling the news outlets and society in general during these days of uncertainty.

Okay, easy to say "don't be anxious", but we can't live in a vacuum, or we'll get sucked into wrong thinking.

So the Bible says to replace anxiety with prayer - not some religious reciting of meaningless phrases, but telling God exactly how you feel and what you need WITH THANKS:

Philippians 4:6 AMPC

..... but in every circumstance and in everything, by prayer and petition ( definite requests), with thanksgiving, continue to make your wants known to God.

Seems pretty straightforward, doesn't it?

What's the result of this?

PEACE... the sort of peace that goes beyond our minds and hearts - a knowingness that Our Heavenly Father has it all in hand.

Verse 7

Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

I invite you to come on a journey of dropping anxiety and worry at the feet of Jesus and in prayer swap it for His Peace.

Maybe we just need to start with wobbly, baby steps, Jesus will be there to catch us, just like He was there for Peter when he stepped out of the boat:

Matthew 14:30-31 AMPC

But when he perceived and felt the strong wind, he was frightened, and as he began to sink, he cried out, Lord, save me! Instantly Jesus reached out His hand and caught and held him, saying to him, O you of little faith, why did you doubt?

If you, like me, are someone who likes to figure everything out, this is a radical change of direction.

But, when you strip it all down, the crux of the matter is trust!

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding - Proverbs 3:5

We're in the midst of a cynical world where it can be a snare to trust - the Internet is rife with many and various scams to trick you into believing a lie. So we don't give our trust easily.

The Kingdom of God is based on believing and then receiving - the opposite of "seeing is believing"!

Blessed are they who have not seen and yet believe - as Jesus said to Thomas [John 20:29].

How can you know it's okay to give your life to Jesus? No other way than to get out of your "boat" and trust!
