Isaiah 61:3
To console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they may be called trees of righteousness, The planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified.”
The thing I've really appreciated during this heatwave is the presence of trees.
Walking our dog in a shaded place is so important to keep him cool.
You see folk sitting under trees picnicking in the canopy they provide.
I call them green cathedrals!
In Isaiah we are told that the Lord wants to change our lives, transforming us, planting us like trees for His glory.
In my life there are a few "trees" that I can rely on.
They are always there to provide shade when the heat is on.
They are steadfast in prayers and faith, providing words of wisdom and arms of love.
Trees stay planted - they grow and spread their branches outwards toward the sky.
They're not choosy about who they give shade to.
Even when they "die" and are cut down, they still provide warmth, being fuel for the fire or a piece of furniture.
When I think of my mum, I can see the "tree-ness" of her life.
She grew in Jesus, roots down deep in His word.
She provided shade from life's fierce rays of trouble. Her branches stretched out to the needy and lonely.
Even now, her memory burns on in my life, to provide warmth and inspiration.
May each of us be planted in Jesus and be good strong trees, giving glory to the Lord.
Colossians 2:7
Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.
