54 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day. 55 For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. 56 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in them.
60 On hearing it, many of his disciples said, “This is a hard teaching. Who can accept it?”
66 From this time many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him.
67 “You do not want to leave too, do you?” Jesus asked the Twelve.
68 Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. 69 We have come to believe and to know that you are the Holy One of God.”
John 6
On this New Year's Day many are looking for inspiration and direction, much like the crowds who followed Jesus, hanging on His every word.
They were tired of the tyranny of Rome and were looking for someone to restore freedom, reduce taxes and set up a new government based on fairness, without corruption.
They'd seen the miracle of Jesus giving them food miraculously, feeding 5000 with 5 loaves and two fish. Free food at time when it was hard just getting by!
"This is the kind of leader we want", they thought. "One of us, who speaks our language."
Then the language got tough.
"What's that he said? Eat his flesh and drink his blood in order to live forever? That's a stretch too far - sounds like he's lost his mind!"
Yes, Jesus' words are hard to fathom. But His words are eternal life. There's no one else that can supply that!
He's the only place to go this year. There really isn't anywhere else to turn.
Look at the turmoil of the world, the threat of war, the endless tide of inflation, bills going up, hope going down, freedoms truncated.
In 2022 hold fast to Jesus, get as close to Him as possible - in Him is life, safety & protection - into eternity.
Dedicate this year to Jesus and reiterate the words of Peter:
“Master, to whom shall we go? You alone have the words that give eternal life, and we believe them and know you are the holy Son of God.”
