The right nourishment

1 Peter 2:2-3 NLT

Like newborn babies, you must crave pure spiritual milk so that you will grow into a full experience of salvation. Cry out for this nourishment, [3] now that you have had a taste of the Lord's kindness.

When we picked up our new puppy he was a little underweight and had not been fed enough or with the correct food for his breed.

Obviously he didn't understand that and only craved something to fill his belly - anything available.

So we changed his food and increased the quantity and we can see, even after a week, that he is growing and his ribs are not so pronounced.

Also, we used a "slow feeding" bowl to prevent him eating too quickly - which can cause "bloat" - a build up of gases and even a fatal twisting of the gut.

Peter, in his letter to new followers of Jesus, says that they should crave, be hungry for, spiritual milk - the right nourishment that God's Word provides, so that they will grow up strong in the faith of full salvation.

This applies to each one of us as believers. Every day we need to feed on God's Word, meditate on it and not just "bolt it down". We need to chew it over in order to fully ingest it.

Psalm 34:8-10 NLT

Taste and see that the LORD is good. Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him! [9] Fear the LORD, you his godly people, for those who fear him will have all they need. [10] Even strong young lions sometimes go hungry, but those who trust in the LORD will lack no good thing.

The Lord Jesus wants us to feed on Him - The Bread of Life. It's so easy to just fill up our lives with empty things that starve our souls. Let's only fill our spiritual bellies with Him.

John 6:35 NLT

Jesus replied, "I Am The Bread of Life. Whoever comes to Me will never be hungry again. Whoever believes in Me will never be thirsty.

Let's make sure we are craving the right nourishment of God's Word and are feeding on Him every single day.

Ephesians 4:15-16 NLT

Instead, we will speak the Truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the Head of His Body, the church. [16] He makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love.
