Daniel 9:25 NKJV
"Know therefore and understand, That from the going forth of the command To restore and build Jerusalem Until Messiah the Prince, There shall be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks; The street shall be built again, and the wall, Even in troublesome times.
We know from external history when the second temple was opened (516BC).
It follows that we can calculate when Jesus was born.
The "weeks" spoken of were weeks of years - 483 years.
Those wise men from the east must have read the writings of the prophet Daniel and calculated that it was the time for Messiah to be born.
So they made for Jerusalem, the place where the temple was built.
Matthew 2:1-2 NKJV
Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, [2] saying, "Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him."
Obviously they weren't as familiar with all the Hebrew scriptures so they had to consult scholars in Jerusalem.
From the prophecy in Micah they were told to go to Bethlehem:
Micah 5:2 NKJV
"But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, Though you are little among the thousands of Judah, Yet out of you shall come forth to Me The One to be Ruler in Israel, Whose goings forth are from of old, From everlasting."
So they went to Bethlehem and found Jesus.
516BC minus 483 leaves 33BC - 33 years before Jesus' crucifixion!
Daniel 9:26 NKJV
"And after the sixty-two weeks Messiah shall be cut off, but not for Himself; And the people of the prince who is to come Shall destroy the city and the sanctuary. The end of it shall be with a flood, And till the end of the war desolations are determined.
Here we read of Messiah being cut off (executed) - not for Himself (but for our salvation).
Also the destruction of Jerusalem was foretold.
That's how Jesus Himself confirmed this destruction in Matthew 24.
Let's worship with those wise men the wonderful gift of Messiah, whose Return is so very near.
