Luke 18:13-14 NKJV
And the tax collector, standing afar off, would not so much as raise his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, 'God, be merciful to me a sinner!' [14] I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted."
Father God, may I never approach You without realising that it's ALL BECAUSE OF THE MERCY AND GRACE OF JESUS.
I have no rights or merits before God.
In this era of chanting about "humans rights" it goes against the grain to declare my own inate unworthiness.
The way into the Father's Presence is only by realising that we have nothing to recommend ourselves except we come via the Cross of Jesus and cry out for mercy.
It's a simple heartfelt cry that is the first step into the Kingdom of God:
"God be merciful to me a sinner!"
Admitting I'm not good enough is humbling and so many miss the entrance that comes only on bended knee.
As the old hymn says:
"There was no other good enough to pay the price of sin.
He only could unlock the gate of Heaven and let us in."
May I ever, in the temple of my heart, keep focused on that mercy and my own unworthiness.
