Philippians 2:9-11 AMPC
Therefore [because He stooped so low] God has highly exalted Him and has freely bestowed on Him the name that is above every name, [10] That at the name of Jesus every knee should (must) bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, [11] And every tongue [frankly and openly] confess and acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
The prayer today in my daily devotional was:
Lord, the name of Jesus is no longer honoured in our society. Would you pour out a spirit of prayer and supplication on your people so that we may turn to you in prayer. Hear our prayer and deliver us in this time of crisis.
It struck me anew how the name of Jesus has been downgraded and degraded so much that it is freely used as a swear word, without a thought.
The very name that will cause every single knee on earth and in heaven to bow has been desecrated and dragged through the mud.
It should cause us great pain, as a knife being stabbed into our stomachs.
The name of Jesus is sacred and precious and peerless in the cosmos.
He is the One, the only One who can save us.
Out of His explosive, unconditional love, He willingly laid down His life on the cross, to be our Sin Bearer.
He took on the hoards of Hell, the crypt of Death and won an unsurpassing, eternal victory:
Colossians 2:15 AMPC
He disarmed the principalities and powers that were ranged against us and made a bold display and public example of them, in triumphing over them in Him and in it [the cross].
This is why the name of Jesus must be treasured and venerated above all others in the hearts of believers.
Islamic followers are bold in defence of Mohammed and yet we remain silent when Jesus is blasphemed.
Even football supporters venerate the name of their club and sing chants, calling them the best the world has seen.
How much more should we, who have been bought with a price more precious than gold, venerate and laud aloud the name of Jesus - the name above all names:
