1 Corinthians 8:1-3
Now regarding your [Corinthians’] question about food that has been offered to idols. Yes, we know that “we all have knowledge” about this issue. But while knowledge makes us feel important, it is love that strengthens the church. Anyone who claims to know all the answers doesn’t really know very much. But the person who loves God is the one whom God recognizes.
My nearest and dearest is in awe of anyone with great intelligence. His valuation of knowledge is off the "Richter scale".
When doing his refreshers on Christianity (which he has to do to be a guide), there's one lecturer that he holds in high esteem: "She knows about Christianity", he exudes with admiration.
To which I always reply, "but does she know Jesus?"
There's so much difference between knowledge (knowing about someone) and being in a loving relationship with that person.
As the Word says: "knowledge puffs up, love builds up"!
I can know the Bible from back to front, iterate church history from its inception.... but if I don't love, it means nothing at all.
I was talking with a dear Christian brother recently who was lamenting his lack of learning of the scriptures. Yet his love for Jesus is a shining light. Many times he's proven his loyalty and friendship in my life and in so many others lives too.
That is the hallmark of a true believer.
Leave the sophistication of knowledge to the theologians of this world - just give me Jesus and His simple love.
In a straight match between knowledge and love, love wins every time.
1 Corinthians 13:8-10 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears.
Any knowledge we now possess is like temporary scaffolding erected while love is being formed in our lives. One day we will be complete in face to face communion with Jesus, with no need for theology.
To that I say a hearty "praise the Lord"!
