Psalm 103:10-18 NKJV
He has not dealt with us according to our sins, Nor punished us according to our iniquities. [11] For as the heavens are high above the earth, So great is His mercy toward those who fear Him; [12] As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us. [13] As a father pities his children, So the LORD pities those who fear Him. [14] For He knows our frame; He remembers that we are dust. [15] As for man, his days are like grass; As a flower of the field, so he flourishes. [16] For the wind passes over it, and it is gone, And its place remembers it no more. [17] But the mercy of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting On those who fear Him, And His righteousness to children's children, [18] To such as keep His covenant, And to those who remember His commandments to do them.
Someone along our road has just moved in and is renovating the place. There's a skip out front where all the rubbish and unwanted bits and pieces are being thrown.
When the skip is full it will be taken away to a dump where it will be buried along with every other kind of garbage - to be remembered no more.
When Jesus moves in to someone's life - the same kind of thing happens. He begins His renovation, by the work of the Holy Spirit, throwing out all the wrongs, bad habits, hidden hazardous ways, so He can make everything brand new.
There's a great removal of our sins - not just down the road at the dump (where we can drive past and be reminded), no, it's as far as the east is from the west - right out of sight and out of mind - hallelujah!
This is so amazing, sounding too good to be true. Yet it's too good not to be true!!
No wonder John Newton, the ex-slavetrader wrote:
"Amazing grace, how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me
I once was lost but now I'm found, was blind but now I see"
This morning, I rejoice once more in that "great removal" of my sin on the Cross of Jesus. His amazing grace has come to my heart afresh & new each and every morning.
