The finger of God
Luke 11:20 AMPC
But if I drive out the demons by the finger of God, then the kingdom of God has [already] come upon you.
I've read this passage many times, but, this morning, the Holy Spirit shined a light on "the finger" of God.
Jesus had just driven out a demon from someone and some sneered and said it was because Jesus was in league with Satan (Beelzebub) that He was able to do it.
Jesus, as usual, puts them soundly in their place by a reasoned riposte.
Then He describes how He drives out demons: "by the finger" (not even the whole hand) of God!
We sometimes get things out of proportion and exaggerate the force of evil.
It's true, compared to our own strength, evil is far more powerful. Yet, compared with the Lord, evil is dwarfed. Merely the finger of the Lord can overcome and drive it out.
Today we see the depths of depravity rearing its ugly head daily in the news. The awful events in Ukraine illustrate it plainly.
However a time is coming when Jesus will return and deal with the evil that is going on:
2 Thessalonians 2:7-8 AMPC
For the mystery of lawlessness (that hidden principle of rebellion against constituted authority) is already at work in the world, [but it is] restrained only until he who restrains is taken out of the way. [8] And then the lawless one (the antichrist) will be revealed and the Lord Jesus will slay him with the breath of His mouth and bring him to an end by His appearing at His coming.
Be encouraged, with these words.
1 John 4:4 AMPC
Little children, you are of God [you belong to Him] and have [already] defeated and overcome them [the agents of the antichrist], because He Who lives in you is greater (mightier) than he who is in the world.
