Isaiah 35:10 AMPC
And the ransomed of the Lord shall return and come to Zion with singing, and everlasting joy shall be upon their heads; they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.
This prophecy is first and foremost for Israel. The exiled chosen people, had the promise of future joy. That their God would come and bring them back to their ancient homeland.
For those returning to the Holy Land after suffering and surviving the Holocaust, it must have been something like a mirage to see the new nation born again after so many years.
When Israel declared independence on 15th May 1948, there was indeed singing and dancing across the Land and again in 1967 when Jerusalem was declared as the capital after the 6 day war.
But, as yet, this verse has not been completed in its entirety.
There remains a day for the ultimate fulfilment - when Jesus returns to set up His Eternal Kingdom.
Revelation takes it on still further:
Revelation 21:4 AMPC
God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and death shall be no more, neither shall there be anguish (sorrow and mourning) nor grief nor pain any more, for the old conditions and the former order of things have passed away.
This promise is for me too, on a personal level.
The wonder of being "ransomed" by Jesus should be a constant source of joy in my desert times.
Truly, I had been taken prisoner by my fallen nature. I was hell bound without hope.
Then Jesus came and paid my ransom with His own precious blood.
Yes, ransomed without money, but with God's very own life.
Anyone who has watched the "Taken" movies will know the great lengths an earthly father will go to rescue his kidnapped daughter or wife.
Even that cannot compare to what Jesus did for me on the Cross.
I can't wait to join in with the singing when, at last, sorrow, pain and death are no more.
It puts hope and a song in my heart as I travel my desert road.
WOW! I share the destiny of the ransomed!
