Take it seriously

Ezekiel 33:30-33

“Son of man, your people talk about you in their houses and whisper about you at the doors. They say to each other, ‘Come on, let’s go hear the prophet tell us what the LORD is saying!’ 31 So my people come pretending to be sincere and sit before you. They listen to your words, but they have no intention of doing what you say. Their mouths are full of lustful words, and their hearts seek only after money. 32 You are very entertaining to them, like someone who sings love songs with a beautiful voice or plays fine music on an instrument. They hear what you say, but they don’t act on it! 33 But when all these terrible things happen to them—as they certainly will—then they will know a prophet has been among them.”

How we approach God's Word will have a huge bearing on our lives.

For believers in Jesus, it is the very essence of our faith. It is spiritual food which will build us up and make us strong.

It is a compass for life, steering us away from the rocks that lie in wait to wreck our lives.

Therefore, as we grow in Jesus, we learn from the Holy Spirit how to rightly interpret its message and head in the right direction.

In the passage above we see how flippantly people were treating God's warnings, through the prophet Ezekiel, as poetical ramblings, like a whimsical song with a catchy tune.

They weren't taking the Lord's Words seriously.

God was being dismissed either as a non-existent fairy tale or irrelevant to their everyday lives.

As we read yesterday, that is a dangerous place to be.

It's very contemporary to our day and age. The Bible has been watered down until it is treated on the same level as the works of Shakespeare very nice sounding literature, but irrelevant to today!

We need to be like Samuel and listen to what God is saying and warning in His Word - take Him seriously!

1 Samuel 3:10 AMPC

And the Lord came and stood and called as at other times, Samuel! Samuel! Then Samuel answered, Speak, Lord, for Your servant is listening.

Question: What is Jesus saying to me today?

He wants me to hear His Voice plainly.

I need to make space and time for Him and really take what He is saying to heart.
