Matthew 4:4 AMPC
But He replied, It has been written, Man shall not live and be upheld and sustained by bread alone, but by every word that comes forth from the mouth of God.
Jeremiah 15:16 (TLB).
Your words are what sustain me; they are food to my hungry soul.”
When going through long periods of suffering, trial or temptation we need spiritual food to sustain us when we're weary and about to faint.
Like a lifebelt tossed toward us on a stormy sea, God's precious promises keep us buoyant and wrap around us in our weakness.
Sometimes it all seems too much for us, especially when under constant bombardment from the enemy.
Just look at the war going on in Ukraine, they need outside help with weaponry to keep fending off the invading forces.
So it is with us, we can't make it alone, we need the sustaining power of God's Word to continue the spiritual fight.
When so broken in my own life, I clung to this promise from the Lord:
The Lord says:
“Small and weak as you are, Israel,
don't be afraid; I will help you.I, the holy God of Israel, am the one who saves you.
Isaiah 41:14
Believers, be encouraged, with that sustaining power, you are more than a conqueror, even though, in the world's eyes you are small and weak!
You WILL come through triumphant - not in your own strength -but in God's alone..... So HE gets the glory!
In Christ alone my hope is found
He is my light, my strength, my song
This cornerstone, this solid ground
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm
What heights of love, what depths of peace
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease
My comforter, my all in all
Here in the love of Christ I stand
