Sustain

Jeremiah 15:16

Your words are what sustain me; they are food to my hungry soul. They bring joy to my sorrowing heart and delight me. How proud I am to bear your name, O Lord.

What keeps a follower of Jesus going, even when under intense pressure?

Answer - God's Word! When all other sources of help fail, we are sustained by the precious promises of the Bible.

Within the Holy Bible there is everything we need to keep us trusting and faithful, even in the hardest of times.

The verse above is from Jeremiah - the so called "weeping prophet".

His task was long and, although he faithfully proclaimed the judgement coming on the land, all he had was contradiction, condemnations and persecution.

Worldly acclaim and success eluded him. At times he exclaimed "why is my pain unending?"

Yet God's word and God's mission sustained him.

This year let it be a year of living by the promises of God's word, whatever we are to face.

Say with Jeremiah:

"Great is Your faithfulness"

Lamentations 3:21

Yet this I call to mind    and therefore I have hope:

22 Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. 23 They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. 24 I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion;    therefore I will wait for Him.”

25 The Lord is good to those whose hope is in Him,    to the one who seeks Him; 26 it is good to wait quietly  for the salvation of the Lord.
