Sudden destruction

1 Thessalonians 5:1-4 AMPC

But as to the suitable times and the precise seasons and dates, brethren, you have no necessity for anything being written to you. [2] For you yourselves know perfectly well that the day of the [return of the] Lord will come [as unexpectedly and suddenly] as a thief in the night. [3] When people are saying, All is well and secure, and, There is peace and safety, then in a moment unforeseen destruction (ruin and death) will come upon them as suddenly as labour pains come upon a woman with child; and they shall by no means escape, for there will be no escape. [4] But you are not in [given up to the power of] darkness, brethren, for that day to overtake you by surprise like a thief.

The word that woke me this morning comes from the passage above:

"Peace, peace, then comes sudden destruction"!

Describing how it will be at the return of our Lord Jesus, Paul foretells (in line with other Bible prophecies) the signs of the times.

We are to be constantly ready, as children of the Light.

The world seems to be on the threshold of another, more disastrous global conflict.

The weaponry available today is far more devastating than in previous wars.

The stage seems set for end times.

With unbalanced, callous national leaders, nuclear war could be unleashed at any moment.

How comforting it is to know that, whatever happens in this world, we have eternal safety in Jesus.

He spent His last days on earth warning about the end times and spoke very clearly of His Return.

Therefore we shouldn't be surprised at what is happening now.

It should make us more keen to be close to Jesus, more anxious to share our faith, more hopeful and excited to meet Him face to face.

Luke 21:28

When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.”
