Genesis 26:6,12-19 AMPC
So Isaac stayed in Gerar. [12] Then Isaac sowed seed in that land and received in the same year a hundred times as much as he had planted, and the Lord favoured him with blessings. [13] And the man became great and gained more and more until he became very wealthy and distinguished; [14] He owned flocks, herds, and a great supply of servants, and the Philistines envied him. [15] Now all the wells which his father's servants had dug in the days of Abraham his father, the Philistines had closed and filled with earth. [16] And Abimelech said to Isaac, Go away from us, for you are much mightier than we are. [17] So Isaac went away from there and pitched his tent in the Valley of Gerar, and dwelt there. [18] And Isaac dug again the wells of water which had been dug in the days of Abraham his father, for the Philistines had stopped them after the death of Abraham; and he gave them the names by which his father had called them. [19] Now Isaac's servants dug in the valley and found there a well of living [spring] water.
What has stopped up my Wells of Living Water?
Have I let others, who have no faith, block the Source - the Holy Spirit? Have I let compromise and fear of what people think muddy the pure water that Jesus wants to pour out from my inmost being?
Isaac had been living among the Philistines. Through fear of them, he had lied about his wife. There was compromise and fear of man in his life.
How encouraging to know that these Bible characters had the same flaws and failings as I see in myself.
Yet the Lord blessed Isaac so much that he was the envy of those around him and they drove him away, stopping up the wells.
Water being a scarce commodity, it was a life threatening issue to pollute a well. The Philistines knew what they were about.
Urgent action was required.
There, in the valley, Isaac dug down deep. With nothing to distract him, he found a new well of water.
Perhaps when I'm driven into a valley by some trial or persecution, I need to dig deep in order to find fresh wells of Living Water.
My valleys may be the best place to find a new outpouring from the Lord.
Prayer:
Father God, I feel like my Wells have been stopped up, help me to dig down deep into You and find fresh living water. Pour out Your Holy Spirit and reinvigorate me to love and serve Jesus!
