Isaiah 55:1-3
Say there! Is anyone thirsty? Come and drink—even if you have no money! Come, take your choice of wine and milk—it’s all free! 2 Why spend your money on food that doesn’t give you strength? Why pay for groceries that do you no good? Listen and I’ll tell you where to get good food that fattens up the soul!
Come to me with your ears wide open. Listen, for the life of your soul is at stake. I am ready to make an everlasting covenant with you, to give you all the unfailing mercies and love that I had for King David.
Many, many [perhaps I should add another "many"] years ago, at primary school, we had a visit from a traffic policeman. There he was, standing tall and erect, in his smart black uniform and shiny shoes, explaining how we should cross a busy road.
He was trying to warn us of the danger of carelessly running out and getting run over.
He said we should "stop, look, listen" at the edge of the curb, before making a move.
He even handed out "hankies" saying that we should look both ways before we crossed a road.
It's sound advice, even today, in these confusing times - to stop at the dawn of a new day or decision and hear from God.
There are competing voices shouting directions at us, creating a turmoil of messages from so many different sources, it's easy to get confused and bemused!
If we don't stop, look and listen to the Lord we may get "run over" in a crisis.
As the passage above encourages us, we need to come to our loving Lord for His Truth, His Provision, His Direction.
There's no need for any payment, it's all on offer for free.
All we need to do is come to Him and be willing to give Him our full attention.
He is more willing to warn and guide than we are to listen.
Remember it takes time to heed His Word.
So "Stop" in the midst of your busy day to hear Him.
Even if it's in a short car journey, during a shower or a toilet break - there are ways to redeem the time to listen to the Lord.
If you are hungry & thirsty for the Truth, it's all laid on as a feast for your soul.
Jesus told us in Matthew 5:6 “Happy are those who long to be just and good, for they shall be completely satisfied.
A feast isn't a "drive-thru" McDonalds experience - feasting takes time - sitting down - with knife and fork and loading the plate with good things.
There's a place for you at God's table - sit down with Him and let Him feed you with His lovingkindness, guidance and strengthen you with His Word.
Psalm 23:5
You provide delicious food for me in the presence of my enemies. You have welcomed me as your guest; blessings overflow!
