Stirrers

Proverbs 10:11-12 AMPC

The mouth of the [uncompromisingly] righteous man is a well of life, but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence.

Hatred stirs up contentions, but love covers all transgressions.

Our mouths have a great influence over the direction of our lives and of the life of those around us.

Like it says in James 3

We all stumble in many ways. Anyone who is never at fault in what they say is perfect, able to keep their whole body in check. When we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we can turn the whole animal. Or take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go.

So, I ask myself this question:

"Are my words a well of life, or, am I a stirrer?"

Looking back at what I have had to say, many times, I admit that my tongue has been like the proverbial wooden spoon stirring a pot full of nastiness, heated by resentment!

Jesus wants us to be wells of life, not stirrers!

As a MasterChef enthusiast - let's put it in a culinary way:

Time to turn off the hob of resentment and empty that pan, clean it out and fill it with Living Water.

We are not called to expose people's faults, but God's love covers transgressions.

The greatest covering of all is the Covenant Blood of Jesus poured out during His Passion.

Aren't we ever so glad when we learn that Jesus has removed our sin as far as the east is from the west, yet, [go on, be honest] not so happy when someone who hurts us is completely forgiven!

I still have a ways to go!

Prayer

Lord Jesus empower my mouth to speak God Words, bringing healing and Your well of Life to others.

May I revel in forgiving others as You do!
