Psalm 143:3-4 AMPC
For the enemy has pursued and persecuted my soul, he has crushed my life down to the ground; he has made me to dwell in dark places as those who have been long dead. [4] Therefore is my spirit overwhelmed and faints within me [wrapped in gloom]; my heart within my bosom grows numb.
I'm so glad that the Bible doesn't hide the stark realities of life.
It's not "come to Jesus and be happy all the day"!
No, the truth is that we will face times of doubt, trial, hardship and testings on many levels, because we have an enemy, bent on our destruction.
This precious Psalm gives voice to David's "dark night of the soul".
He feels empty and drained, just like someone in a desert being pursued by a relentless foe.
Crying out to God in desperation is the only response to such circumstances.
Give voice to the stark reality of your soul. Never give up calling on the only One who can help.
Psalm 143:6-7 NLT - ⁶ I lift my hands to you in prayer.
I thirst for you as parched land thirsts for rain.
⁷ Come quickly, LORD, and answer me,
for my depression deepens.
Don’t turn away from me,
or I will die.
Desperate words indeed from the man destined to be king - a man after God's own heart!
There's no shame in being spiritually destitute - indeed it is the gateway to renewal:
"Blessed are the poor in spirit"
"Blessed are they who mourn"
These are Jesus' promises:
Matthew 5:3
Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 Blessed are those who mourn,
for they will be comforted.
5 Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth.
Jesus knows well the stark reality that each of us face and meets each defeat with His great turnaround.
Just wait, you'll see.
May His Name be praised forever.
