Spotlight

Proverbs 20:27

The LORD’s light penetrates the human spirit, exposing every hidden motive.

That's a very daunting thought - that the Lord sees through every pretence.

He puts a spotlight on our motives and sees where they are hidden away!

He knows our thoughts from afar:

Psalm 139:1-3

You have searched me, Lord,

and you know me.

You know when I sit and when I rise;

you perceive my thoughts from afar.

You discern my going out and my lying down;

you are familiar with all my ways.

Sometimes we don't even realise what's in our own heart - it's so deceitful!

Jeremiah 17:9-10 AMPC

The heart is deceitful above all things, and it is exceedingly perverse and corrupt and severely, mortally sick! Who can know it [perceive, understand, be acquainted with his own heart and mind]? [10] I the Lord search the mind, I try the heart, even to give to every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his doings.

We may think that we're better than others, but we're fooling ourselves if we think we are ok because of that!

Without coming to Jesus for cleansing we're lost, without hope.

Isaiah 64:6 AMPC

For we have all become like one who is unclean [ceremonially, like a leper], and all our righteousness (our best deeds of rightness and justice) is like filthy rags or a polluted garment; we all fade like a leaf, and our iniquities, like the wind, take us away [far from God's favour, hurrying us toward destruction].

So the Bible states that even our best bits are polluted and show up as filthy and worthless under God's spotlight.

That's exactly why Jesus HAD to go to the cross. There was no other way to rid us of our sin.

Ephesians 2:4-5 AMPC

But God-so rich is He in His mercy! Because of and in order to satisfy the great and wonderful and intense love with which He loved us, [5] Even when we were dead (slain) by [our own] shortcomings and trespasses, He made us alive together in fellowship and in union with Christ; [He gave us the very life of Christ Himself, the same new life with which He quickened Him, for] it is by grace (His favour and mercy which you did not deserve) that you are saved ( delivered from judgment and made partakers of Christ's salvation).

Prayer

Father, it's very unnerving to live under your spotlight - Your eyes see my every imperfection clearly. Help me to remember that you see us through the eyes of grace and mercy because of Jesus! I am so very grateful!
