O God, You are my God;
Early will I seek You;
My soul thirsts for You;
My flesh longs for You
In a dry and thirsty land
Where there is no water.
Psalm 63:1
"You need to eat something", said my nearest and dearest.
That was yesterday morning.
I wasn't hungry and decided to skip breakfast.
"At least have a banana", he pleaded.
So I did!
He always emphasises the need to eat before going out into the day.
It's a wise practice.
What about a spiritual brekkie?
Is it wise to go out into the day without, at least eating a spiritual "banana" - a few bites of God's Word to sustain and energise us in this barren world!
The Psalm before us declares "early" and some translations say "earnestly" I will seek You - whatever the correct one is - seeking the Lord is not an optional extra.
He is the One who can give us guidance and supply every need for our lives.
The old Ready-brek advert showed how eating it gave a shield of protection against the cold.
Reading God's Word does that spiritually.
It also shows we are listening for what He has to say, finding out how He feels about issues.
It is spiritually nutritious.
Don't starve your soul, make sure you have your spiritual breakfast.
But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
Matthew 6:33
