Judges 14:2-3 AMPC
And he came up and told his father and mother, I saw one of the daughters of the Philistines at Timnah; now get her for me as my wife. [3] But his father and mother said to him, Is there not a woman among the daughters of your kinsmen or among all our people, that you must go to take a wife from the uncircumcised Philistines? And Samson said to his father, Get her for me, for she is all right in my eyes.
The life of Samson doesn't make pleasant reading.
The use of HIS eyes and HIS choices became a deadly snare to him. There's no mention of him ever consulting the Lord about his choice of wife.
Dedicated to the Lord at birth, gifted with great physical strength, he met his demise after sleeping with the enemy.
It's a stark warning to us all.
Samson went to the enemy to find his romantic associations - imagine if he'd married someone of his own faith? How much pain would he have been spared?
But we see him flirting with the Philistines over and over again - sleeping with the enemy. He gave away his great secret like it was some game he was playing with Delilah.
He was so sure of his strength (which was a gift from God, by the way) and prided himself in it, not realising when the Lord had left him!
Judges 16:20 AMPC
She said, The Philistines are upon you, Samson! And he awoke out of his sleep and said, I will go out as I have time after time and shake myself free. For Samson did not know that the Lord had departed from him.
Associating with the wrong kind of company will drain your spiritual strength and eventually make you lose your way, like Samson.
His last cry was "Let me die with the Philistines!" as he brought down the pillars of the temple of Dagon.
He died in the place where he'd mistakenly chosen to place his affections. His choice of life partner was his downfall.
The enemy of your soul would love to entice and entrap you, rob you of your strength and gouge out your spiritual eyes!
Don't ever think you're spiritually invincible.
Stay in the secret place of the Lord, where he can protect you.
If you're going to boast at all, boast about the Lord, the source of your strength:
Psalm 34:2 AMPC
My life makes its boast in the Lord; let the humble and afflicted hear and be glad.
Don't play games with your spiritual life!
