Silent sermon

Psalm 19:1 onwards

The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge. There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard. Their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world.

There's a very healing balm in nature.

Yesterday I got so stressed over a technical issue, with no foreseeable outcome, that in the end I said: "I'm taking the dog for a walk"!

Like this Psalm says: the sky and nature speaks a silent sermon to our heart. Constantly it is telling of the majesty and power of our Lord.

When we look up and away from this world's intense issues and realise the sovereignty of God, it puts things in perspective.

The society that we live in seems to make us more and more powerless. We are restricted in so many ways, ways which we could hardly imagine just a year ago!

Online issues constantly frustrate and confuse.

Forgotten passwords, updates, logins, logouts, broken links, no more shopping slots - the list is endless!

It can drive a person to despair.

That's why we need the silent sermons of the sun, sea and sky.

Prayer

Father God, amidst this confusing, frustrating world You are the Source of real help and calm.

Help me to listen to the Word you speak whether through the silent sermons of nature or Your Precious Holy Word.
