Matthew 27:62-66 NKJV
On the next day, which followed the Day of Preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees gathered together to Pilate, [63] saying, "Sir, we remember, while He was still alive, how that deceiver said, 'After three days I will rise.' [64] Therefore command that the tomb be made secure until the third day, lest His disciples come by night and steal Him away, and say to the people, 'He has risen from the dead.' So the last deception will be worse than the first." [65] Pilate said to them, "You have a guard; go your way, make it as secure as you know how." [66] So they went and made the tomb secure, sealing the stone and setting the guard.
Look - Jesus' Body sealed up tight in the tomb. Jealously guarded throughout that Sabbath. The religious overlords wanted to keep Jesus dead, just a lifeless corpse.
There was no sound, no sign of life. All the hopes of His Promise sealed with His dead body.
That's what death brings - the burial of love shared. Everything stops. There's a huge gaping hole where that person was...
The "guards" of grief and sorrow keep watch - just to ensure that the end is final.
That's where we end without the Resurrected Jesus.
Ecclesiastes 9:3-6 NLT
It seems so wrong that everyone under the sun suffers the same fate. Already twisted by evil, people choose their own mad course, for they have no hope. There is nothing ahead but death anyway. [4] There is hope only for the living. As they say, "It's better to be a live dog than a dead lion!" [5] The living at least know they will die, but the dead know nothing. They have no further reward, nor are they remembered. [6] Whatever they did in their lifetime-loving, hating, envying-is all long gone. They no longer play a part in anything here on earth.
...And so the world was put on pause.. eternity hushed before Jesus' tomb....
