John 20:6-9 AMPC
Then Simon Peter came up, following him, and went into the tomb and saw the linen cloths lying there; [7] But the burial napkin (kerchief) which had been around Jesus' head, was not lying with the other linen cloths, but was [still] rolled up (wrapped round and round) in a place by itself. [8] Then the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, went in too; and he saw and was convinced and believed. [9] For as yet they did not know (understand) the statement of Scripture that He must rise again from the dead.
The Shroud of Turin is a controversial relic that has long been venerated as the burial cloth of Jesus.
It certainly fits the bill as the burial cloth of someone who was crucified in the way described in the Gospels.
Indeed the account above mentions the linen cloths which were left neat and tidily by the Risen Christ... He didn't leave the tomb in a mess for Joseph of Arimathea!
Certainly the disciples or the Marys would have picked these up and taken them along with them as a treasured memorial.
Now whether it is or it isn't the real thing doesn't really matter, because the real issue is that: did Jesus rise from the dead?
That is the most crucial fact that surrounds the Christian faith, my faith and hopefully your faith too.
1 Corinthians 15:17 AMPC
And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is mere delusion [futile, fruitless], and you are still in your sins [under the control and penalty of sin];1 Corinthians 15:20 AMPC
But the fact is that Christ (the Messiah) has been raised from the dead, and He became the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep [in death].
AI has fascinatingly created an image of Jesus from the Shroud...
Is this the face of the Lord we treasure?
