For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government shall be upon His shoulder. And His name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
Isaiah 9:6
I make no apology for revisiting yesterday's scripture, it's very relevant for the time in which we live.
Government weighs heavy on any Prime Minister or President, and, in the main, no human is really up to it! There are fatal flaws in our fallen nature which expose us to corruption in many different forms.
A human's shoulders are not strong enough to stand up to all the challenges and temptations that power brings.
We are currently watching our current government implode because of compromise. One rule for the masses, another for the them! It's not very pretty.
Interestingly, we are promised in Jesus, that the government, not of one country, but of the whole world, will be upon His shoulder.
What a wonderful promise of eternal peace, ruled with wisdom and love at the very heart of His Government.
Isaiah describes Jesus' role still further....
He will protect His flock like a shepherd, He will gather the lambs in His arm, He will carry them in His bosom; He will gently and carefully lead those nursing their young.
Isaiah 40:11
We can see that in Jesus' Kingdom, there is no survival of the fittest ... oh no! He will look after the vulnerable and be gentle with those who need nurturing.
Jesus reverses how the world deals with matters:
Matthew 18:1 At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who, then, is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?”
2 He called a little child to him, and placed the child among them. 3 And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. 4 Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. 5 And whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me.
6 “If anyone causes one of these little ones—those who believe in me—to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea. 7 Woe to the world because of the things that cause people to stumble! Such things must come, but woe to the person through whom they come!
Jesus is not going to let those callous rulers get away with anything. A time of standing up for the oppressed is coming.
We can rest assured that Jesus' shoulders are infinitely strong enough, wise enough to sort out every wrong and deal with the evil that currently assaults this planet.
Prayer: Jesus YOUR Kingdom come!
