Shade

Isaiah 25:4 AMPC

For You have been a stronghold for the poor, a stronghold for the needy in his distress, a shelter from the storm, a shade from the heat; for the blast of the ruthless ones is like a rainstorm against the wall.

People who live in hot countries really know the value of shade.

It's only in a heatwave that us Brits learn to value it!

As we walked to the marina yesterday afternoon in Gibraltar, we made our way taking advantage of the shade of trees and buildings wherever possible. Often we stopped to cool down and take on water before continuing.

I was reminded of how the Lord is likened to shade in the Bible.

Life's trials can burn us like the midday heat and the world offers us little comfort.

Without Jesus we are exposed to the intense rays of trouble with nowhere safe to shelter.

Contrast that with a life lived by faith in Him:

Psalm 121:5-6 AMPC The Lord is your keeper; the Lord is your shade on your right hand [the side not carrying a shield]. [6] The sun shall not smite you by day, nor the moon by night.

Father God, thank for the shade you give us each and every day, keeping us from being burnt up by trouble and trials.
