Set your sights!

Colossians 3:1-4 NLT

Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honour at God's right hand. [2] Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. [3] For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God. [4] And when Christ, who is your life, is revealed to the whole world, you will share in all His glory.

For most of us, let's be honest now, heaven doesn't feel all that real as we live out our daily lives.

Routines are real, homework is real, housework is real and bills are real, but heaven feels "ten zillion light years away" (as the Stevie Wonder song says).

We've been looking at the forecast, hoping for some dry days, but the week ahead is full of cloud, rain and cold temperatures - not favourable for outside work!

Life can be like that.... grey, hopeless days of work and routine stretching far onto the horizon.

If you feel like that then the passage above is a great wake up call to refocus.

The Bible makes it crystal clear that we have a real life awaiting us with Jesus in heaven. Also that's where we should set our sights, our hope and ambitions.

If your life seems shrunken and void of hope, then your sights are set on too much on this earthly life.

Only the most rich and powerful are above the adversities that ordinary folk are facing today. For most of us, it's an uphill struggle.

Where is hope? Where is something onto which we can fix our hearts?

In the book and movie "Heaven is for real", a little boy shares his near death experience.

When I read it, it woke me up to the reality of what I believe in: https://youtu.be/N-ewaCVARtM

Our real lives, as the Bible says, are hidden with Christ in God.

If the outlook is grey, the uplook is glorious - time to refocus.

Heaven IS for real and you're gonna love it!

Make sure you're in relationship with the only One who can take you there - Jesus!
