Serene

2 Peter 3:14 AMPC

So, beloved, since you are expecting these things, be eager to be found by Him [at His coming] without spot or blemish and at peace [in serene confidence, free from fears and agitating passions and moral conflicts].

Ever been caught unawares for an appointment or a visitor you'd forgotten? Panic ensues, clothes are grabbed, rooms quickly tidied, toilets flushed and brushed - you're not ready!

We all have nightmares about such situations - I've just been woken by such a dream - so glad it wasn't real!

Contrast that with careful preparations made for an event. How wonderful to sit serenely awaiting the day, knowing that everything is ready, prepared and tidied.

That's how Jesus wants us to be at His return - our lives tidied and kitted out by the Holy Spirit, washed by Jesus' blood.

We may love this earth (nature is still very wonderful), our current home - even be proud of it, but it's not going to last forever, nor this current cosmos!

2 Peter 3:10 AMPC

But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will vanish (pass away) with a thunderous crash, and the [material] elements [of the universe] will be dissolved with fire, and the earth and the works that are upon it will be burned up.

[Just an interesting aside, why does the Lord need to destroy the current universe? Because the high spiritual realms were the first to fall. Lucifer fell from grace prior to the human race. So the whole heavens are tainted with sin and need to be replaced with new heavens and a new earth.]

What an awesome verse written by Peter, our Lord's number one confidante and friend. Jesus must have shared such future happenings in detail for him to be able to write so graphically.

So how serene is my heart? Do I need tidying up? Have I put out the "green bins" of selfishness, pride and malice? Have I made sure that I've flushed and brushed my spiritual "loo" clean of unforgiveness?

Jesus wants His followers to be serene and ready when He arrives.

Do we REALLY believe that His arrival is imminent?

Then we should prioritise preparations and make ready our lives.

Prayer

Jesus help me welcome you with a serene heart when you return.
