1 Peter 3:18-20 NKJV

For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit, [19] by whom also He went and preached to the spirits in prison, [20] who formerly were disobedient, when once the Divine longsuffering waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water.

After Jesus' body died from the agonising torture of the Cross, what happened to Him?

Of course we know He was carried away by Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus:

John 19:38-42 YLT

And after these things did Joseph of Arimathea -- being a disciple of Jesus, but concealed, through the fear of the Jews -- ask of Pilate, that he may take away the body of Jesus, and Pilate gave leave; he came, therefore, and took away the body of Jesus, [39] and Nicodemus also came -- who came unto Jesus by night at the first -- bearing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, as it were, a hundred pounds. [40] They took, therefore, the body of Jesus, and bound it with linen clothes with the spices, according as it was the custom of the Jews to prepare for burial; [41] and there was in the place where he was crucified a garden, and in the garden a new tomb, in which no one was yet laid; [42] there, therefore, because of the preparation of the Jews, because the tomb was nigh, they laid Jesus.

But, where did He go and what did He do between Good Friday and Resurrection Sunday?

It seems that there was a "secret sermon" that He preached to those "spirits in prison".

It's a mysterious time and venue, but we know from Revelation that Jesus has the keys of Hades and Death:

Revelation 1:18 NKJV

I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen. And I have the keys of Hades and of Death.

Was there an exchange of keys too? Did Jesus take them from the evil one at that point?

Did He, after preaching that secret sermon, unlock the prison doors of those departed spirits?

It's a fascinatingly obscure period. However, while all hope seemed dead and buried, Jesus was taking on a great missionary journey.

We wait, with baited breath, for tomorrow!
