Isaiah 26:4 AMPC
So trust in the Lord (commit yourself to Him, lean on Him, hope confidently in Him) forever; for the Lord God is an everlasting Rock [the Rock of Ages].
The great wonder of the Lord is that He is rock solid, reliable and true. Here in this verse we read that He is an EVERLASTING Rock - One that will never be broken or erode away. Whatever, in this life, we build our life on, it is exposed to decay, decline and destruction. It matters not what precautions we take to protect, say, our investments or pensions, our job, our health or life itself. It can be snatched from us in a moment of catastrophe. That's why we need a rock to anchor onto and Our Lord is that Rock. Jesus taught this in Matthew 7:24-25 AMPC So everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts upon them [obeying them] will be like a sensible (prudent, practical, wise) man who built his house upon the rock. [25] And the rain fell and the floods came and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. Leaving God out of the loop is like building your house on sand. It's ok until circumstances turn on you. Matthew 7:26-27 AMPC And everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not do them will be like a stupid (foolish) man who built his house upon the sand. [27] And the rain fell and the floods came and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell-and great and complete was the fall of it. Like we looked at yesterday, there's a practical element to our faith in Jesus. We build on His Word, taking action in line with Him. Ignoring Jesus has great, eternal, negative consequences! Mark 8:36 AMPC For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world, and forfeit his life [in the eternal kingdom of God]? Put your "house" on Jesus. Selah
The beautiful words of the old hymn sums it up very well:
1 Rock of Ages, cleft for me,
let me hide myself in thee;
let the water and the blood,
from thy wounded side which flowed,
be of sin the double cure;
save from wrath and make me pure.
2 Not the labours of my hands
can fulfill thy law's demands;
could my zeal no respite know,
could my tears forever flow,
all for sin could not atone;
thou must save, and thou alone.
3 Nothing in my hand I bring,
simply to the cross I cling;
naked, come to thee for dress;
helpless, look to thee for grace;
foul, I to the fountain fly;
wash me, Saviour, or I die.
4 While I draw this fleeting breath, when mine eyes shall close in death, when I soar to worlds unknown, see thee on thy judgment throne, Rock of Ages, cleft for me, let me hide myself in thee.
