Psalm 130:3 AMPC
If You, Lord, should keep account of and treat [us according to our] sins, O Lord, who could stand?
Gay rights and trans rights, - all crying out for their "rights" in society.
These cries are loud and proud.
Dare, if you will, to oppose them and you will be shouted down and called homophobic, transphobic and other more colourful adjectives!
Yet what would happen if we went to God and asked for our "human rights"?
What, Biblically speaking, are our "rights" before Him?
Actually, as Job found out, we don't have any intrinsic rights before God:
Job 42:6 NLT
I take back everything I said, and I sit in dust and ashes to show my repentance."
All rights were relinquished in the Garden of Eden after "The Fall".
Genesis 3:23-24 AMPC
Therefore the Lord God sent him forth from the Garden of Eden to till the ground from which he was taken. [24] So [God] drove out the man; and He placed at the east of the Garden of Eden the cherubim and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep and guard the way to the tree of life.
The "rights" we have before a Holy God is the "right" to be judged, found guilty, and to receive the "death penalty". For who among us is without sin?
That's depressing - a one way ticket to the grave. We're lost, without any hope of reversing it.
If we only had "rights" in ourself, we're doomed!
However, there is a wonderful, amazing "but" - we see it throughout the Bible:
Psalm 130:4 AMPC
But there is forgiveness with You [just what man needs], that You may be reverently feared and worshiped.
David speaks about God's forgiveness. He knew it before it was bought and paid for on The Cross.
Jesus "fleshed out" in searingly, painful agony the pathway for mercy and grace. He took our "human rights" (the death penalty) and paid the price of our rebellion.
Today I'm so grateful, Jesus, for what you did for me on the Cross.
Now, through Your Blood, I can come boldly:
Hebrews 10:19 NLT
And so, dear brothers and sisters, we can boldly enter Heaven's Most Holy Place because of the Blood of Jesus.
