Isaiah 58:12 (NIV)
Your people will rebuild the ancient ruins and will raise up the age-old foundations; you will be called Repairer of Broken Walls, Restorer of Streets with Dwellings.
It was an old log cabin that had fallen into disrepair. In it were pictures of its former glory with tatty old furniture untidily arranged around rotting floorboards. The walls had holes where the wind could blow through, the tin chimney for the wood burner lay broken on the roof.
A large tree had fallen on the construction and put the whole cabin "out of kilter", so that the doors and windows didn't shut properly anymore.
We watched a skilled craftsman (and his black lab Gracie) gradually begin to restore this old lakeside cabin.
He set up camp beside the cabin and took his time lovingly renovating and repairing it.
It put me in mind of how Jesus sets to work in each of our lives, as we give ourselves to Him.
He sets up His Presence with us and begins the long process of clearing out the rubbish from our lives.
He sees what is broken and what needs repairing or replacing.
In the YouTube, we watched the foundation logs and flooring being replaced - meaning that it lent on temporary jacks while repairs took place.
(a good watch if you have a few hours to spare 🙂!)
As Jesus' Body here on earth, true believers have to act as "temporary jacks" while a broken life is repaired by the Lord.
That's the true mission of each of us who too have been repaired and restored by Jesus.
We then go about being "repairers of broken walls", not pointing the finger, but helping to support those broken ones who need a new foundation for their lives.
