Relax!

Luke 10:38-42 AMPC

Now while they were on their way, it occurred that Jesus entered a certain village, and a woman named Martha received and welcomed Him into her house. [39] And she had a sister named Mary, who seated herself at the Lord's feet and was listening to His teaching. [40] But Martha [overly occupied and too busy] was distracted with much serving; and she came up to Him and said, Lord, is it nothing to You that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me [to lend a hand and do her part along with me]! [41] But the Lord replied to her by saying, Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things; [42] There is need of only one or thing. Mary has chosen the good portion [that which is to her advantage], which shall not be taken away from her.

We've all been there, haven't we? Awake in the middle of the night wondering how on earth we're going to get everything done? So many issues troubling our minds and not enough hours in the day to achieve what we want to do!

That was me last night, tossing and turning, my thoughts in a turmoil, trying to reason how to meet all the deadlines on the horizon.

Sleep was a million miles away.

Then I heard the gentle voice of the Saviour saying "Come to Me and rest, let it all go"!

It took a few attempts to drop the turmoil, but, as I laid back on my pillow, finally I released my spirit in to the loving arms of Jesus.

Then He reminded me of dear Martha, who was such a busy, practical lady, serving everyone gathered around Jesus.

She had worked herself up into a frazzle, trying to cope, while her sister was just sitting there, hanging on Jesus' every word.

Of course she was cross and accusing, we all get irritable when we feel someone's not pulling their weight, don't we? Especially in a family with sibling rivalry and different personalities - there is always some underlying resentment ready to raise its ugly head.

In a busy day, we all have choices how to spend our time.

Putting time with Jesus first will bring peace and help the rest of the day fall into place.

Don't be too busy serving Jesus that you forget to sit with Him!

Make the choice for the "one thing" - sit at Jesus' feet and hear His voice:

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Matthew 11:28-30

...postscript: In case you think my situation melted into some Christian utopian "floating" through the day... I had several meltdowns during the day... I still have a ways to go!
