Psalm 103:16 NKJV
For the wind passes over it, and it is gone, And its place remembers it no more.
Psalm 103:16 NLT
The wind blows, and we are gone- as though we had never been here.
Psalm 103:16 TPT
Then all of a sudden we're gone, like grass clippings blown away in a gust of wind, taken away to our appointment with death, leaving nothing to show that we were here.
When we're the centre of our own universe, we exaggerate our own importance.
This passage makes it clear how short and transitory we are.
Once we die it matters only to a few close ones.
Others quickly forget that we even existed.
In Ecclesiastes, Solomon expands on this theme.
He amassed great wealth, had many wives, was very learned - he denied himself nothing.
What was his conclusion?
Ecclesiastes 2:16 NKJV
For there is no more remembrance of the wise than of the fool forever, Since all that now is will be forgotten in the days to come. And how does a wise man die? As the fool!
If everything revolves around "me, me, me" how empty life is.
Don't be like the rich fool with his "bigger barns syndrome"...
Luke 12 16
And He told them this parable: “The ground of a certain rich man yielded an abundant harvest. 17 He thought to himself, ‘What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.’
18 “Then he said, ‘This is what I’ll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store my surplus grain. 19 And I’ll say to myself, “You have plenty of grain laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry.”’
20 “But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’
21 “This is how it will be with whoever stores up things for themselves but is not rich toward God.”
Bring God into the equation and life is totally different.
Through Jesus I know that the future is so bright I'm not able to imagine how wonderful it will be.
Putting Jesus first puts this brief life into perspective:
Matthew 10:42 NKJV
And whoever gives one of these little ones only a cup of cold water in the name of a disciple, assuredly, I say to you, he shall by no means lose his reward."
Only one life that will soon be past - only what's done for Christ will last!
