Practical

Practical James 2:14-16 AMPC What is the use (profit), my brethren, for anyone to profess to have faith if he has no [good] works [to show for it]? Can [such] faith save [his soul]? [15] If a brother or sister is poorly clad and lacks food for each day, [16] And one of you says to him, Good-bye! Keep [yourself] warm and well fed, without giving him the necessities for the body, what good does that do?

The driving test these days has 2 phases - 1st the theory and 2nd the practical, actually driving the car on the roads.

Of course we need the theory, but, unless you can practically drive the car, what use is the theory?

Here, in this passage, James is making the same point about faith.

He concludes that faith in Jesus that didn't translate into practical help, that faith is dead and useless.

There are many theologians with letters after their names. They can quote chapter and verse, their knowledge of the Bible knows no bounds - however, don't be deceived:

Knowledge [alone] makes [people self-righteously] arrogant, but love [that unselfishly seeks the best for others] builds up and encourages others to grow [in wisdom].

1 Corinthians 8:1

As we chatted about someone who's struggling with life, my nearest and dearest said that something practical needs to be done.

He's right!

Active faith in Jesus will always lead to practical help.

Thought: How can I demonstrate my faith in Jesus by reaching out and providing practical help today?
