Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise Him;
He has put Him to grief.
When You make His soul an offering for sin,
He shall see His seed, He shall prolong His days,
And the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in His hand.
Isaiah 53:10
One of the strangest verses is this one, describing the ordeal of God's Suffering Servant, which was planned, prophecied here and fulfilled by our Lord Jesus in His Passion.
Other versions translate it as: "it was the Lord's will to crush Him".
Either translation reveals that the plan of salvation entailed the crushing of the Soul of Christ to be our Sin-Bearer!
Even the name Gethsemane (or gat shemanim in Hebrew) means "oil press".
How very appropriate that, there, in the dark night, Jesus wrestled with the untold agony of the Cross before Him, as His soul was being crushed and bruised beyond belief.
Yet what oozed out of Him was loving surrender to His Father's Will.
The result is that billions of the redeemed, you included I pray, will surround Him in adoring wonder for eternity.
He will say it was worth it!
I wonder what oozes out of me when I'm crushed? Oft times it's not very pretty!
So the Lord will keep on pummelling until He gets the result He wants...
Job 23:10 AMPC
But He knows the way that I take [He has concern for it, appreciates, and pays attention to it]. When He has tried me, I shall come forth as refined gold [pure and luminous].
